Sickle Cell Foundation hosts ‘Expo for a Cause’

GREENVILLE – The Robinson’s Sickle Cell Foundation hosted “An Expo for A Cause” at the Greenville Convention Center in Greenville on June 9. The expo was the work of Travis Robinson, a nurse at Roanoke-Chowan Community Health Center. He and his mother founded a nonprofit that seeks to educate individuals about and improve the lives of those living with Sickle Cell Disease. “It was important to me to create an event for Eastern North Carolina like those I have attended in other parts of the country,” Robinson said. “My mom and I created this foundation in memory of my brother who died at age 14 from Sickle Cell Disease, but also to show those living with the disease that they can live happy, fulfilling lives if they have access to the right resources.” The Robinson’s Sickle Cell Foundation envisions a world where people understand the causes of Sickle Cell Disease including genetic counseling, the symptoms people experience when they have it, and a community that grants patients and their families the expertise to know what they need to best treat the symptoms they are experiencing.
